Our base camp community…
We come together on an open mountaintop located in the heart of the Monongahela National Forest next to Spruce Knob, the highest peak in West Virginia. We sleep under the darkest skies in the Eastern US, which gives us an inspiring night sky to reflect upon each evening. The combination of breathtaking views and deep wilderness forest is an awe-inspiring mirror for our journey into the inner territory of our deeper being.
Much of our work happens within the varied, living landscape of this very dynamic ecosystem. It features impressive rock crags, expansive wildflower meadows, a secluded underworld of extensive cave systems, and the quiet solitude of verdant spruce forests. Indoor gatherings are held in a large and beautifully handcrafted wooden yurts built by the renown Bill Coperthwaite.
We strongly encourage you to sleep close to the earth, and use the primary option of camping. You can bring your own tenting gear, or you can also rent ours. We offer indoor dormitory style accommodations, at an extra fee, for those who have physical limitations. Due to the rustic and isolated natural setting, cell phone service is not available and external distractions are kept to a bare minimum.
Our meals are carefully prepared by our own chef, supported by our own cooking teams who will accommodate most dietary needs and restrictions. We want you to be adequately nourished and sustained physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually.
An exceptional team of guides and a large community of women support staff will help you clarify and energize your heroic journey in a way that serves your unique passage through this phase of your life and is likewise directed to enliven the whole of life.
We as a facilitation and support staff also live our own Hero’s Journey ® during the week’s intensive, and we are all in it with you for our own health and wholeness. We do this ourselves so that we can be most authentic and real as fellow men and human beings, offering our most vital and responsive selves to support the whole of the journey community.
You will be given a detailed online preparation guide to help you get ready for your Hero’s Journey ® Intensive. This will include guidance to help you begin your journey at home; respond to self-reflective questions and meditations, complete the necessary intake forms and Journey Questions, and take up some suggested reading.
All physical and logistical concerns such as recommended clothing and equipment lists and travel information will also be addressed by the preparatory information.
