On this page you will find all the information necessary to prepare for your Journey.

Please begin the registration process as soon as you can make the time to do so.  Some of the forms below must be completed by a parent or guardian, and some must be completed by the enrolled participant as well.

If you find that you do not have sufficient time to complete the registration in one sitting, or if you need to pause in order to gather more information, or consider your answers more thoughtfully, that is not a problem. Everything you have entered on the form up to that point will be saved until you return to it at another time.

Preliminary Materials

The materials in this section will help you prepare for the upcoming summer journey.  It helps us get to know you better, which helps us to prepare for you.  We want to get to know you better so that your journey can be crafted more towards what you need and what would serve you best.  Letting us know things about you is good practice for how you might share yourself with your fellow journeyers when you are on the mountain     with us.

1. If you have not yet done so, please take the time to go to the Enrollment and Payment Page and complete the form asking for your personal information.

2. Read the document Preparing For Your Journey

3. Click here to answer the Four Questions on page 2 of Preparing For Your Journey.

4. Fill out the Medical Information Form

5. Fill out the Intake Form

6. Enter your Emergency Contact Information

7. Please email (or mail) us a picture of yourself in any format that is best for you.

8. Below are several additional forms requiring a signature which need to be printed out, read, signed, and either scanned and emailed to chrisroyer@herosjourneyfoundation.org

or sent by regular mail to:

A) The Commitment Contract is an agreement that affirms your desire to undertake this upcoming journey.  It recognizes the fact that others may have made significant investments in this journey for you, and that you are willing to give your best efforts to both the preparation, and the week-long experience.

This form requires a signature from the Young Hero participant to be valid.

B) The Young Men’s Journey Waiver, the Authorization and Consent for Medical Treatment, and the Assumption of Risks, etc. on pages 3 and 4 of the Nelson Rocks Visitor Registration Packet are required forms.  We must have these signed forms before you can participate in the Hero’s Journey ® Intensive.

These forms require a parent or guardian signature to be valid.

Please also include a copy of your Health Insurance Card.

C) During the course of the Journey we sometimes record video and often times take pictures for our use in marketing our program to others who might be interested in future participation.  This media may appear online or in flyers that we produce.  If you are under 18, please have your parent or guardian undersign with you.  This is optional, and we will not publish any images of you without your signature on the form.  We very much appreciate being able to use the material to help share this opportunity with others, but fully understand if you wish us not to.

As your Summer Journey Intensive approaches:

Once you have completed the above registration process and are ready to take the next step in preparation, please read the documents below, which will give you specific and important guidance and direction about what to bring and how to travel to your destination.

The Young Men’s Journey takes place along with the other adult Men’s Journeys at The Mountain Institute, Spruce Knob Mountain Center near Circleville, West Virginia, in the Monongahela National Forest.

Determine how you will be arriving and departing from our site in West Virginia.  If you are under 18, who will be accompanying you?  Inform us of your travel plans once they are made.
